Personally, I LOVE costumes, but I know that an invitation to a costume party can send some people into a panic, especially if you're (like me) a bit older than the average party goer, or on the curvy side. Trying to hire a costume can be daunting when every shop is full of short, skimpy outfits.
My usual advice is to wear something out of your wardrobe - close(ish) to the type of costume that you want and that you're comfortable in.....and then go crazy with the accessories and acting the part. But really, should you always have to do that?
Ta Da! New for the New Year is this beautiful 1920's sequinned and beaded dress. My 1920's range already goes up to a size 18, and this latest stunner is a size 26. There aren't any large size gangster suits (as yet). Rest assured it's next on my wish list.
P.S. If you're buying your fancy dress costume - there are some brands, like Leg Avenue or Rubies Deerfield that have a good selection of Plus Size costumes. I'm always happy to order in from my suppliers for customers.
I'm a fan of sci-fi, fantasy, etc, what is now referred to as speculative fiction - so as we were in Cardiff anyway, we absolutely had to visit the Dr Who Experience......especially since it'll be closing down in September. Why? It's not through lack of interest. The place was choc-a-bloc with Whovians when we were [...]
Now, I know I say this all the time...(not just in the blog either, as anyone who has chatted to me in the last few weeks can tell you) but it's been really busy!Boxes and boxes of new Halloween stuff have been arriving. I love opening the boxes and seeing the things I ordered so [...]
What a great day yesterday was.I gave my first special effects makeup tutorial. Now, I'm not a makeup artist - and there are plenty of YouTube videos showing how to use latex, etc (sometimes their results are hard to duplicate!)...... but I know how to use simple 'special effects' techniques to give really effective results [...]
When I open the door to my studio to usher customers in, they usually give a gasp of surprise. To be fair, I've just walked them along our driveway (my husband's a builder, please ignore the building materials here) and through our garden (I've got two children, just let me move the toys out of [...]
Christmas is a magical time of year - and what could be more magical than having Santa himself turn up and hand out presents?Right now Santa is obviously pretty busy (what with organising presents for all the children around the world) so you'll need to find a willing victim as a stand-in, and dress them up [...]
Hallloooo.......how has your week been? If you've been a bit bored, how about you gear up for an exciting costume weekend.Tonight at 9pm, there's the BIG kids birthday party at the Royal Melbourne Hotel in Bourke Street. The Party theme is Superheroes and Princesses. There will be a jumping castle, fairy bread and lolly bags [...]
Lucky, lucky me, I've managed to grab some beautiful corsets, all new ex-display stock. I'm already up to my eyes in corsets and frilly petticoats in my hire section, so I spent today photographing them in the studio, and in the next couple of days I'll be adding them to ebay. The ebay store is [...]
Phew, it's been so long since I wrote anything on social media - that includes facebook or instagram. I even missed passing on the details of the Melbourne Goblin Ball and posting any pictures for the 4th July.I've been focusing on setting up my new ebay store, littlestcostumeshopmandy, which is only for the costume accessories which I [...]
I should really be cleaning and sorting out the studio this week - but somehow there's always something else to do - and I've got to be honest, I'm not really motivated when it comes to cleaning! It's easy to be motivated when three boxes of new stock lands on your porch though.....surely there can't be anything [...]
