Remember When You Had to Print Out Photos and Glue Them into Your Portfolio?

'Going through' Lockdown #6 seemed like a good time to go through other things. Sort through photographs, update my resume, get a grip on what I can influence. Instead, I'm deep in a nostalgiafest.
This won't come as a surprise if you read my last blog - but I've still got my old Art College portfolio with some of my sketchbooks inside - and my hardcopy portfolio which tracks my time studying Theatre Wardrobe, working at the Welsh National Opera and starting to style wigs while working in Melbourne. (*cough* eighteen years ago.)
The rest of my work is either on this website, or on my phone, buried under the button that says 'Gallery'.
Should I print those pictures out? Hunt out a can of Spray Mount and a silver marker pen and go proudly retro?
It is totally self indulgent, but this is what I found while trawling through.
I wandered lonely as a cloud... of daffodils which bloomed more quickly than I was lazily drawing them.
I did sort of look like this back then...
College, where I mostly studied partying, drinking and having a good time.
The Welsh National Opera days. To be honest there were a fair amount of good times then too.
My first attempts at Wig Styling
Fame at Last.
And... my latest wig styling.
To be honest, I was never a great student, or employee for that matter. Apologies to my former tutors and employers - I did my best work in the pub. But there's a continuous line between my earliest (almost by accident) enrolment in art college on the Wirral and my ongoing learning half a world away in Melbourne. When lockdowns allow, I'll be studying how to hand-knot wigs, and trying hard to upgrade skills in technology and social media. I don't think I'll need that Spray Mount, but the old pictures and the portfolios I brought with me aren't going anywhere. ;)
